The Best Hotels in the Dolomites
Luxury Holidays in Italy

We have done extensive research and chosen the pick of the 5-star hotels in the Dolomites. Each one combines outstanding service, refined design and a setting surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage peaks. Whether you are looking for a spa retreat, fine dining or direct access to the ski slopes and hiking trails, you will find the right luxury hotel for your stay.

A 5-star hotel meets a wide range of objective standards - from luxurious rooms and refined materials to comprehensive services, culinary diversity, and technical features. Every area-– accommodation, dining, service - is offered to the highest level to provide guests an exceptional experience.
Some of the key criteria include: 24-hour reception, round-the-clock room service, spacious rooms & suites, minibar & safe in-room, high-end materials & design, a restaurant and bar open daily, and a higher staff-to-guest ratio.
Additionally, 5-star hotels must undergo an annual mystery guest inspection to assess their facilities and standards.

Yes, there are hotels in South Tyrol and in the Dolomites that meet the standard of a 5-star superior hotel - meaning properties that go beyond the regular 5-star level with exceptional facilities, service quality, and exclusivity.
However, the term “Superior” is not always used or officially stated in South Tyrol / Italy - unlike in countries such as Germany. The brand generally remains “5-star”, even when the standard is clearly higher.
Many of these hotels intentionally omit the “Superior” label and instead focus on offering visibly superior quality - with luxurious suites, first-class cuisine, spacious spa areas, and personalised service.
So, booking a 5-star hotel in South Tyrol often means enjoying a superior-level experience - even if it’s not written on the logo.

Tipping in a 5-star hotel isn’t mandatory but is a welcome gesture of appreciation - especially when service is personal.
For porters, housekeeping, spa or room service, and concierge services, small amounts of around €5 are common and appropriate.
In restaurants, unless already included, tipping five to ten percent is standard.
Ideally, tips are given personally or left in the room with a short thank you note.

Casual wear is absolutely fine at breakfast-time, also because you'll probably soon be going out, to spend your day walking, cycling, skiing or snowshoeing. Guests should dress smartly for dinner. Men needn't wear a tie, but a jacket is definitely recommended. You certainly shouldn't turn up casually dressed, in your slippers or with wet hair.

Yes, you'll certainly find a swimming pool in every 5-star hotel. Indeed, many of them have both indoor and outdoor pools.

Yes. This is available at all the 5-star hotels. However, you should notify reception in advance.

No, it isn't. The local tourist tax is applicable per day for every guest over 14 years of age, and has to be paid separately.

There is no single answer, because the best luxury resort depends on what you are looking for. For some guests it is a 5-star wellness hotel with an expansive spa, indoor and outdoor pools and holistic treatments. Couples seeking peace and quiet often prefer a 5-star adults-only hotel, while families value a 5-star family hotel with kids’ clubs, childcare and activities for all ages. Others choose their resort for its gourmet cuisine, its ski-in/ski-out location or its secluded setting amid the mountains. Whatever your preference, the Dolomites offer a wide range of exceptional 5-star resorts to suit every taste.
